Re: SATA Hard Drives in Ion 2010 Kits
SATA hard drives have been recognized as the new standard in hard drive technology and offer many advantages
over the older drives. It is for this reason that AMI has switched to SATA hard drives in our 2010 Ion hard drive kits.
As a result of this, however, games with ECS motherboards will need an additional adapter in order to
install the SATA hard drive
. This adapter is required because older ECS motherboards do not have a SATA port.
We continue to support our older hardware by offering an adapter kit. If your game requires the adapter, please
contact your distributor
(order part number SB0679-01 for Fusion games, and SB0676-01 for all other games)

To determine if your game requires the adapter, see the motherboard pictures below. You can also use your game
serial number to find out what type of motherboard it was produced with. Games with serial numbers of
031507XXXXXXXX and above (where the first 6 digits represent the manufacture date) were built with ASUS
motherboards. Additionally, if you are upgrading any Aurora, Rx, or other cabinet that already has a SATA drive in
it (see hard drive pictures below), you will not need the additional adapter kit.
SATA drives transfer data faster, offer more reliable operation, and use flexible, thinner cables, which allow for
increased air flow and easier access to components. AMI believes that transitioning to SATA will improve overall
system performance, as well as make software updates quicker and easier.
