Issue:

Merit Industries has identified a problem with the Megatouch
Force 2002 software release.

Games affected:

This problem only affects Megatouch Force games shipped
between September 28

th 

to October 17

 th

, 2001 from the

Merit factory.  The involved games will contain software
versions V8.01, V8.02 and V8.03.

Please note that this problem affects ONLY Megatouch
Force 2002 software and Megatouch Force games.

It does NOT affect MAXX games, Emerald software
releases or conversion kits.

Symptoms:

This problem may affect the game in a variety of ways.
Initially, the problem may present itself as excessive noise or
hissing in the sound system.  After time, the problem will
also result in various disruptions in game display and play.
System lock-ups and automatic game re-booting will also
occur.

Cause:

There is a software bug in version Megatouch Force 2002
software V 8.01- V8.03.

Solution:

Merit Industries is providing a free software update disc for
all affected Megatouch Force games.  The CD update will
take approximately 2 minutes to load into a game and
should be installed on all Megatouch Force games with
V8.01, V8.02 and V8.03 software.  It will update the
Megatouch Force 2002 software to the V8.04 release.  The
discs will be supplied to all distributors who received the
affected Megatouch Force games.  Please contact Merit

CD Installation Instructions

1. Turn off power to the game.

2. Unlock and open the CPU section door.

3. Connect the 2 x 20-pin IDE connector to the IDE interface connector on the CD-

ROM drive.  Make sure the red stripe on the ribbon cable matches up with pin 1 on
the IDE interface connector.

4. Connect the four (4) pin power connector on the ribbon cable to the DC power input

on the CD-ROM drive.

5. Make sure that your CD-ROM drive is set to MASTER.

6. Locate the centronics connector.

Upright

: The centronics connector is located on the PC shelf.

In Force Radion and Force Classic games:

 The centronics connector is located

above the motherboard assembly.

In Force Elite games:

 The centronics connector is located on the PC shelf.

7. Turn on the game.

8. When the game menu is displayed, insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.

9. Turn off the game and turn it back on.

10. The update should take approximately 2 minutes to complete.  After the update is

complete, you will see a screen that says: 

"PG3002V8.04 UPDATE COMPLETE.”

11.  Remove the CD and turn off power to the game.

12.  Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable from the centronics connector on the game.

NOTE

When disconnecting the ribbon cable, carefully disconnect the cable by

grasping the connector and not the cable itself
